Pattie Maes Associate Professor of Media Technology, MIT Media Lab Associate Academic Head, Program in Media Arts and Sciences |
|
Pattie Maes heads the Media Lab's Ambient Intelligence research group, which focuses on ways to integrate the world of information more closely into our daily physical lives. The goal of their research is to offer "just-in-time" information—information that is highly relevant to a user's current focus to help in gaining insights and making better decisions—in convenient, non-disruptive ways. Prior to joining the Media Lab, Maes was a visiting professor and research scientist at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab. She was chosen by Newsweek as one of the 100 Americans most likely to shape the next century; TIME Digital selected her as a member of the Cyber-Elite; the World Economic Forum honored her with the title "Global Leader for Tomorrow"; and she has been recognized with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council. She holds bachelor's and PhD degrees in computer science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. |
